Aqaba at a glance
Aqaba sits at the very tip of Jordan where four countries — Jordan, Israel, Saudi Arabia and Egypt — all share a narrow finger of sea. It is Jordan's only port and its only coastal city, which makes it an anomaly in a largely desert-and-mountains country: a place of warm water, coral and beach hotels.
The city is compact and walkable around its corniche. The old Ottoman fort, the Aqaba Museum, the fish market and a growing strip of beach clubs all sit within easy reach of each other. Most visitors come for the sea, but the town itself has character worth exploring.
Things to do in Aqaba
Aqaba's underwater world is the main draw. The Red Sea here has excellent visibility (often 20–30 m), warm temperatures year-round, and healthy coral reefs accessible directly from the shore or by short boat ride. The Cedar Pride shipwreck is among the most photographed dive sites in the region.
Above water, the Ayla waterfront development has brought marinas, restaurants and beach clubs. Day trips to Wadi Rum — just 60 km north — are easy to combine with an Aqaba base. For culture, the Aqaba Archaeological Museum and the fort are worth a morning.

Getting to Aqaba
Aqaba King Hussein International Airport receives direct flights from several European cities and connects well via Royal Jordanian from Amman. Alternatively, a scenic 3.5-hour drive south from Amman along the Desert Highway is a comfortable option by private transfer.
